Be Careful What You Wish For!

I did it again, and it’s not like I didn’t know better! wish for

Yep, this time I was looking at my carefully planned schedule with each day carefully scheduled so that no day would be an overload. I realized that what I really wanted was a schedule that would allow me to not get up in the morning if I didn’t feel like it.

That’s when I said it…”I’d like to have some unscheduled days, days to just vegetate if I wanted to.”

So, this last Monday evening I came down with a sore throat, leading into the cold that I had been skirting for the last week or two.

And voila! My schedule was suddenly cleared, I stayed in bed until I felt like getting up (and am still doing so!) But I didn’t feel good. (Guess I wanted the sick day without being sick!)

And I got what I had wished for, just not in the way I would have liked. Perhaps I should have chosen my words more carefully?

Ever happen to you?

I clearly remember another time when I was struggling with finances while owning and operating a bookstore in Eureka, California, when I said that “I wanted to be debt-free in the worst possible way.”

debt freeI guess the Universe took me literally, as bankruptcy was to me the worst possible way.

And I did get debt free via bankruptcy!

As a reminder to us all, however, is the fact that the law does not care whether what we say is really what we want, it only knows what we say we want.

It doesn’t interpret it, just fulfills it!

On a happier note, I remember saying in learning curvemy interview in 1989 that “I wanted a career with a good learning curve.” I was tired of creating a job the first year, refining it the second, and then looking for the next shiny opportunity.  (I guess I get bored easily!)

Anyway, real estate has turned out to be the perfect match for me, always changing and with new stuff to learn. It’s been over 20 years now and I still love it!

So, what about you?

Ever wished for something that you later wished you had been more specific about?

Ever found yourself with something (or someone) that you really hadn’t wanted?

Ever been happily surprised at how something worked out for you?

Please share one of your life-learning opportunities!
