More word play!

Posted by Pat on September 3, 2017 in Uncategorized |

Oxymorons are fun to play with! (after all, I am an ex-English teacher!)

Ever wondered about such phrases as…

icy burn?

fight for peace?

definitely maybe?

How about …

government organization?

act naturally?

open secret?

Why do we use phrases that don’t seem to make logical sense?

For one reason, they are fun! Oscar Wilde comically reflected on the fact that he could resist anything, except temptation.

For another reason, they add flavor to our speech.  When someone says a phrase such as unpopular celebrity, they are finding a new way to describe that person.

And still another reason, they make us stop and think/laugh and ponder!

Here’s one that is amazing!

And…

Andy Warhol said “I am a deeply superficial person.”

Yogi Berra said “No one goes to that restaurant anymore-it’s too crowded.”

Winston Churchill said “A joke is actually an extremely really serious issue.”

Somebody said “I am busy doing nothing.”

I’d love to hear what YOU can share with us!
