Use the Physics of Dominoes

Got any dominoes in YOUR life?

The Guinness Book of World Records shows that in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, the world record “domino fall” fell!  With the lining up of more than 4,491,863 dominoes in a dazzling display, the record came tumbling down.

In this instance, a single domino set in motion a domino fall that cumulatively unleashed more than 94,000 joules of energy (which is as much energy as it takes for an average-size male to do 545 pushups!)

The physics of dominoes…

Each standing “domino” represents a small amount of potential energy; the more you line up, the more potential energy you’ve accumulated. When one thing (the right thing) is set in motion, it can topple many things.

And that’s not all!

In 1983, Lorne Whitehead wrote in the American Journal of Physics that he’d discovered that domino falls could not only topple many things, they could also topple bigger things. He described how a single domino is capable of bringing down another domino that is actually 50% larger.

Ever seen that happen in YOUR life?

Would you like to?

Do you see the implications for our lives from these domino “facts”? Getting extraordinary results is all about creating a domino effect in our lives.

Find the right thing. Do the right thing and then do the next right thing. Over time it adds up and the geometric potential of success is unleased.

The domino effect applies to the big picture in our lives AND it applies to the smallest moment in each day when we’re trying to decide what to do next.

Want to become healthier and more fit? Figure out those dominoes.

Want to become financially secure? Figure out those dominoes.

Want to improve your primary relationships? Figure out those dominoes.

And (to mix my metaphors!) don’t forget this poem by Benjamin Franklin that shows what can happen if you don’t choose that first domino well!

“For the want of a nail the shoe was lost,
For the want of a shoe the horse was lost,
For the want of a horse the rider was lost,
For the want of a rider the battle was lost,
For the want of a battle the kingdom was lost,
And all for the want of a horseshoe-nail.”

So…What is that “nail/domino” YOU need to find and use today?
