World Laughter Day?!

Posted by Pat on January 8, 2017 in Uncategorized |

In honor of Tuesday, January 10th, known as World Laughter Day, I submit a few observations for you! We can laugh at ourselves and let the world laugh with us!

Only in America…do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in America…do people order double cheeseburgers, large fires, and a diet Coke.

Only in America…do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

Only in America…do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

And, did you know that studies of five-year olds have show that they laugh, on average, 7.7 times per hour, while the average American adult laughs just eighteen times a day?

And, some truths those same youngsters may well have learned:

  • If your sister hits you, don’t hit her back. They always catch the second person.
  • You can’t hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
  • When your Mom is mad at your Dad, don’t let her brush your hair.

I bet you can validate some of those truths learned by youngsters!

I know I can!

And, some truths we adults may have learned as well:

  • Raising teenagers is like nailing Jello to a tree.
  • Wrinkles don’t hurt.
  • Families are like fudge…mostly sweet with a few nuts.

And, for some of us “older” adults there are some great truths about growing old:

  • Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.
  • It’s frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
  • Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

What makes YOU laugh?

What can you do to increase your average number of laughs to more than only eighteen times a day?

I could go easier on myself and that would help! Life is full of stress and I know laughing would help relieve that!

Tish, we do tend to be our own worst taskmaster as well as critic. Giving ourselves permission to be imperfect and being able to laugh at ourselves could help us all!
