Two days to be worry-free

Posted by Pat on June 8, 2014 in Uncategorized |

days of week

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry; two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.carrying the past

One of these days is YESTERDAY with its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains. YESTERDAY has passed forever beyond our control.

All the money in the world cannot bring back YESTERDAY. We cannot undo a single act we performed. We cannot erase a single word we said. YESTERDAY is gone.

One of my favorite inspirational writers, Og Mandino, states in two of his books (The Greatest Salesman in the World and The Greatest Secret in the World):

I will waste not a moment mourning yesterday’s misfortunes, yesterday’s defeats, yesterday’s aches of the heart, for why should I throw good after bad?”

The other day we should not worry about is TOMORROW with its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and poor performance. TOMORROW is also today is tomorrowbeyond our immediate control.

Why should we throw now after maybe?

TOMORROW’s sun will rise either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds-but it will rise! Until it does, we have no stake in TOMORROW for it is as yet unborn.

That leaves only one day: TODAY. Anyone can fight the battles of just one day. It is only when you and I add the burdens of those overwhelming days-YESTERDAY & TOMORROW-that we break down.

It is not the experience of TODAY that drives us mad, it is remorse or bitterness for something which happened YESTERDAY or the dread of what TOMORROW may bring.

LET US CHOOSE TO LIVE JUST ONE DAY AT A TIME AND CHOOSE TO MAKE IT A MASTERPIECE!

 past, present and future

To paraphrase the biblical quote from Matthew 6:36 which says  “Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof,”

I would also like to say “Sufficient for the day is the joy thereof!”

Anyone (besides me!) out there that catches themselves in

either the past or the future instead of the PRESENT?

This is so true! I will make a conscious effort to do this every single day and as long as we learn from our “yesterday’s” and not repeat the same mistakes it will be easier!

Tish, Remember the affirmation “Every day in every way I am getting better and better?”
      It gives us hope!

Hi Pat. I just read your post. Having just finished it – that is “yesterday”. Thinking about how to add a comment or two – that is “tomorrow”. So, for now, I find a smile caused by thoughts of which direction to take. Even in bad times, the past or the future – try to find the positive, happy thoughts to help. Sometimes you put yourself in a hole as you get down on things, so get out by using good thoughts to help getting out. Just think of and concentrate on putting self in the good place – everything else gets shoved aside. Wow, that was “yesterday” so fast. Have a nice day now and good luck for tomorrow. Earl

Earl, it reminds me about the concept of the “moment” where that is all there is. But of course, our “minds” don’t really get it! So we get to keep working/playing with it!

  • This is a constant struggle for me. I’m told animals live in the NOW. Why can’t humans? Must be a screw loose somewhere.

    • Pat says:

Mary Kay, I think we over-think stuff. And I don’t believe that animals do. Of course, to our credit, I understand we are the only species that laughs!

    Pat,
Thank you so much for this timely post to your wonderful blog!! THIS is the day to rejoice and be glad.
