Word Play!

The words we choose to use we often choose unthinkingly.

Here’s a game to take control of that!

Using the infamous four letter words association, make a  better list of all the positive four letter words you can think of. As you do that you’ll discover some words are neither negative nor positive, but seem neutral. So then you have three lists. But keep searching for those “good” words!

For example:

love, kind, hope, help, calm, heal, good, grow, gift…

hand, foot, wind, list, when, each, cold, body, Visa…

hate, quit, poor, won’t, deny, dead, can’t, fear, diet…(and then ignore THIS list!)

So why do this?

Because the words we choose and use have power. The power they have is what we choose by deciding which ones to focus on.

AND, where we put our attention is what we create!

Think about the process. It involves:

  • focusing your attention,
  • searching for words,
  • counting letters of possible words,
  • being aware and deciding if they are positive or negative or neutral.

And,

this means you are conscious, in the present moment. That’s a gift you’ve given yourself!

As the spiritual leader, Ernest Holmes, wrote:

“Life is a blackboard upon which we consciously or unconsciously write those messages which then govern us. We hold the chalk and the eraser in our hand but are ignorant of this fact. What we now experience we need not continue to experience but the hand which holds the eraser must do its neutralizing work.”

You may find yourself subconsciously counting the letters in words as I do after this “game.” Whatever works to help us be conscious of the words we choose is a good activity, don’t you think?

So, how many positive four letter words can you think of? It should be fun to get more than 25!

So have fun with it!

P.S. for you advanced students…try putting some of those words together for your own personal messages, like:

feel calm, play well, sing song, pray lots, care much, call home, live life…

Go ahead and “work/play with your mind!”

You know the drill!
