An Irish Christmas Experience?

What fun it was to attend the live concert of The Irish Rovers while I was visiting my sister over in the Seattle area this last week. The group began in Canada, were immigrants from Northern Ireland, and then headed down to the states.

They soared to the top of the pop and country charts with “Wasn’t That a Party?” Hot on the heels of that success, the band recorded “Grandma Got Run-Over By a Reindeer”, which became an immediate seasonal anthem. (Both of which they sang Thursday night!)

Perhaps Younger Irish Rovers!it dates me… blog irish rovers old

but the  members of this group are of my generation! Here’s a before and an after photo!

Their music is upbeat, generating audience foot-stomping and hand-clapping, as well as singing along! Here’s a clip from the concert we were at:

A joyful experience like this makes it easy to remember that we are blessed

  • to be here now,
  • to be here,
  • to be

This is a great time to be alive, to be here in this country, to live in this awesome world with so many wonderful opportunities and with so many fascinating people.

And so many gifts are ours…

At this season we can give thanks for many, many blessings. And for me, music is an important one. And the concerts are such a multi-media experience!

I’m reminded that  we don’t really “create” but simply “discover and use”. Principles are universal and abundant.

No musician would claim that the particular note he struck used all the harmony. For s/he used the principle of harmony. And no matter much it is used, there is neither less nor more than there was in the beginning. Isn’t that awesome? And who knows what combination of the seven musical notes the next memorable music will sound like! After all, look at what Chopin, Beethoven and Vivaldi did with them. For that matter, look at what Elvis did with two!

For me, right now, it’s music that I’m relishing, that I’m feeling grateful for, that I’m looking to experience more of. It is my current joy!

How about you?
