Potholes

Posted by Pat on October 5, 2014 in Uncategorized |

Potholes, I’ve discovered, can have a useful purpose.

And that’s a good thing, because there seem to be so many of them!

Yes they are annoying.scared passenger

My husband cringes whenever I hit one, no matter how carefully I try to avoid it.

(He may be a “bit” dramatic about it, But I think it’s only because he would rather be driving the truck than be the passenger!)

Maybe a pothole “caused” you to spill your coffee, send those papers on the seat sliding to the floor, the grocery bag to tip over.

And maybe it “caused” you to tell yourself to “slow down!”

(As it did me when I stepped into one off the curb at tai-chi class, where I’m learning grace and balance!)

Yes, potholes can make us aware of the places in our lives where we need to exercise care and caution!

Sometimes they just happen. The winds, the rains, the normal wear and tear of daily living will result in cracks and crevices that require some attention.

They can be the result of neglect, abuse and poor foundations.

In some cases they are indicative of too much activity, too much traffic and too little maintenance.

On the road, they seem to appear from nowhere. Often, we don’t see them until it is too late to avoid them.

Does this possibly describe the potholes in your life?

In life, potholes may be easier to detect. You can tell when you have a pothole.

many potholesYour path may be littered with potholes:

when you break your word to others (or to yourself),

when the sink is full and the dishwasher is empty,

when you have money but not time to pay your bills,

when your to-do list is overwhelming and,

when your “get-up-and-go” is gone.

Potholes are a fact of life that we should all learn how to navigate. And when the first crack shows up, we need to get it handled.

So, what can you do about your potholes?

Here’s some choices! pothole flowers

And, what do you choose to do about them?

I’ve got too many potholes, but I’ve been jotting them down making a list and cross them off when completed. And you can’t forget, forget my memory, or can ? Am doing better w
    ith the holes. bye.

George, crossing off those potholes from our list is smart! And it gives us a sense of accomplishment as well.

There are lots of potholes in your path of life that you have to deal with in some manner. When much younger, too many leg injuries stopped that part of my life – the pothole just got too big and hurt too. I didn’t go in that direction any more.

My wife and I were living in a situation that was not a happy place to be any more so we decided that was another pothole to just avoid and changed our path to leave it and go somewhere else. (That somewhere else was Walla Walla).

There are several situations in your life that need decisions to be made – to avoid taking action only leaves you in mud getting deeper. The potholes in your life path will be there. See them and take a positive maneuver. Life is too short to jump in the pothole and just stay there.
